About Lumion

Back in 1998 in Leiden, Netherlands, two young Dutch programmers with a strong curiosity for 3D computer graphics took the first steps toward creating a software company. Act-3D B.V. was soon born.

In the first few years, moving from an attic to a one-room office and hiring several talented programmers along the way, Act-3D became an early pioneer in building software to leverage the first 3D graphics acceleration devices on the market.

A key development during this time was their cutting-edge 3D engine, Quest 3D, which found its way into many applications, ranging from boat simulations and training tools to TV and film.

Quest 3D was an important milestone that led to the insight that architects needed a specific tool: a visualization tool that could produce results quickly without requiring a deep technical background or prior experience with 3D graphics.

So in 2007, the small Act-3D team took a bold step by shifting their focus toward architects, with the sole goal of enabling them to harness the power of real-time 3D visualization technology. In December 2010, the first version of Lumion entered the market. Since then, Lumion has grown to include hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic users in over 180 countries and can be found in about three-quarters of the world’s top 100 architectural firms.
